How are carbon emissions calculated?
The following assumptions where made for the purpose of the Smartsalary carbon offset program: a car driving 20,000km per annum (Smartsalary average) and with a fuel efficiency of 11.2L/100km (ABS average) will use 2,240 litres of fuel a year. Assuming the car uses unleaded petrol, it will therefore produce 5.6 tonnes of CO2 emissions.
A fortnightly pre-tax donation of $2.42 will help offset the carbon emissions generated when you drive your leased car. For every $63 donated by our customers, Greenfleet will plant 21 native trees.
These calculations are based on the National Carbon Accounting toolbox, which is a Government approved model issued by the Department of Climate Change. The model measures the carbon uptake of trees at each planting site. Find out more here.
