Living remotely doesn’t stop you saving

If you live in an area classed as remote by the Australian Tax Office, and the reason you  live where you do is because of your job , then you can package your rent or  home loan repayments.

How it works

Tell us how much your loan or rent payments are. We'll arrange for your employer to set aside that amount every time you get paid and make sure you are reimbursed – using those pre-tax dollars.

What you need to know

This item is subject to Fringe Benefits Tax – but you are taxed at a reduced rate of 50%. That means if you salary package $10,000 of rent or repayments, the taxable value for FBT will only be $5000.

Items you can package are:

• loan repayments
• interest on loan repayments
• rent payments
